I started Pilates 6 years ago hoping to find a solution to the niggling back pain I'd been having on and off for several years. Attending the classes regularly has made me aware of the imbalances in my body that have a knock-on effect on my posture whether I'm sitting at a desk, at the wheel of a car or doing sports. The teachers are passionate about what they do and really know their stuff so classes are both enjoyable and instructive. They have enabled me to work on improving my core stablility and also build up core strength. My back is better and I feel much more resilient, so much so that I took up triathlons 3 years ago, which I would never have dreamt of before. I recommend Pilates to people all the time because it helps your back and I think everyone could benefit from the strength and freedom of movement that it gives.

After a lifetime of involvement in boxing and athletics, I found myself suffering from stiff joints and a serious back problem. I did the rounds of GPs, chiropractors, physiotherapists and osteopaths; none of which seems to alleviate the aches and pains. As things got worse I realised that if ever I needed a miracle, it was now. I didn't find a miracle but I did find Pilates - which for me has almost amounted to the same thing.
I was initially referred to Anne Marie who quickly started to show me the ropes. At first I was very tentative and a bit sceptical, as it was so different from the type of exercise regime which I had always practised. The thought also crossed my mind "should I be diversifying like this at almost 50 years of age?" From the start Anne Marie's patience and instructional methods were absolutely top drawer and in a matter of weeks I found myself both absorbed and enlightened by her teachings.
After 12 months of one-to-one instruction Anne Marie then assigned me to Claire to continue with mat work as part of a class. Again I was totally impressed with the standard of tutelage.
So, here I am, almost 2 years down the line; the stiff joints are now supple, the muscles feel strong and toned but the back problem persists. A recent MRI scan has revealed a spinal condition which will require surgery. In the last few weeks two specialists who I have consulted have been surprised that I am more mobile than most people of my age and they have agreed that it is due to my daily Pilates routine.
Finally, this spinal operation will come and go, but for me Pilates is the way ahead and I shall remain committed for life. I sincerely hope that Anne Marie and Claire will continue as my instructors.

I find my Pilates classes to be one of the great treats in life and I find myself really looking forward to it each week. It rewards me by relaxing my mind whilst strengthening my core muscles which has greatly helped me recover from a previous back injury. I fee refreshed and invigorated after each session and I generally feel more supple and flexible in my everyday routines. With today's busy lifestyles I can thoroughly recommend Body Control Pilates to all ages as it greatly helps to reduce stress levels through a structured breathing regime. The whole experience of Body Control Pilates is greatly enriched by the warm friendly and attentive instructors - all of whom deliver the programme in a fun but very professional manner.

I have attended pilates classes for about 8 years and thoroughly enjoyed them. Three years ago I had major spinal surgery and the strength and control I had achieved prior to the surgery helped my recovery. Pilates is an important part of my life and definitely contributes towards my fitness and mobility, without it I would find many activities much more difficult if not impossible. I am still amazed that such a gentle form of exercise can do so much for the body.
