Born and raised in Inverness, I came to the world of Pilates from a career in Hotel & Catering management. Prior to this I had no experience in anatomy, body works or dance. Due to a VERY heavy second pregnancy and consequent birth of my son which took its toll on my short frame of 4ft 10in I discovered the need to 'find' my core. I started attending Pilates classes with Sarah Hunt in 2001 quickly discovering the inner strength that this method talked of. Not only did I gain core strength, I left my class feeling elongated, relaxed from the precision of breath and nourished from the brain's conscious involvement in training the muscles to make precise and detailed movements.

I was so impressed with the improved wellbeing of both my mind and body that I completed the Level 3 Matwork Teacher Training course with Body Control Pilates. Qualifying in 2004 I went on to study the Intermediate and Advanced Mat work in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Numerous courses during this time include Pilates for the Ante / Postnatal Client, Pilates for Osteoporosis, Pilates and the Swiss Ball and the use of small pilates 'props'. I completed the studio training required to teach on the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair and Barrels. I never tire of learning and passing on new found knowledge to my clients. Pilates is a journey on a road that has no end; practice, patience & persistence are key but above all enjoy it!

I came from a non-movement background having worked for 10 years in investment management in London. On my return ‘home’ I needed to re-think my career options. I touched on yoga and body balance and then came across pilates. As I learnt more about human anatomy I became more intrigued by pilates, and after attempting the full classic mat soon realised the incredible challenge pilates holds. Being overly flexible it seemed the perfect balance of flexibility and strength, and a very intelligent form of exercise. I qualified with Body Control Pilates in July 2007 and have gone on to complete the Intermediate mat and many courses allowing the use of small props within the matwork. My reformer training started in Oct/Nov 08.

I have been interested in health and fitness since I was a teenager. I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2002 and since have worked in the NHS where I have continued my post-graduate training, particulary in the fields of musculoskeletal rehabilitation and sports injuries. I started to be aware of pilates during my physiotherapy training but it wasn't until I was working that I started to read the scientific evidence around the use of pilates with low back, neck and pelvic pain patients. To me pilates seemed like the perfect way to compliment my other physiotherapy treatments such as mobilisations, manipulations, massage and other exercises. I completed my matwork training with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute in Feb 2011 and have since also studied pilates and the gym ball. I use pilates both alongside other treatments and as a stand alone treatment depending on the client's need. I recently moved to Inverness from Wick and am excited to be able to further my career both as a physiotherapist and a pilates instructor.

Having qualified as a STOTT PILATES Instructor in 2004 I have been teaching classes and individual lessons around Inverness and the Highlands. I came to realise the amazing benefits of Pilates having experienced injury as an athlete (competing at International level), and with hypermobile joints, now find I can not do without its support for my own body. Pilates has been life changing for me. I am passionate about running, hill walking, cycling and swimming, and would not be still active in these sports had it not been for the life changing movements of Pilates. As a mother, Pilates also played a vital part in re-gaining my fitness and health after childbirth. I now use it as a complement to my own very active life.

I am developing as an Instructor and recently completed the Active IQ Level 3 NVQ in Instructing Pilates (Level 3REP’s). I have completed STOTT PILATES Training in Injuries and Special Populations (Jan 2010) and other STOTT courses using small equipment such as Gym Balls, Magic Circles, Flexi-Bands, foam rollers, Soft Balls. Also training for Post-natal and Pre-natal Pilates. Most recently I have been incorporating Standing Pilates in my classes, as a functional alternative to some Pilates movements, within my classes.

I am also qualified as a British Nordic Walking Instructor and have teaching small groups and individuals since 2010. Nordic Walking is a perfect complement to Pilates and brings people to the outdoors, thoughtfully encouraging clients to think about their posture whilst walking with specifically designed poles. With a technique similar to classic Cross country skiing it becomes a whole body work out, encouraging you to walk naturally, creating a relaxed upper body and with less pressure on the joints of the hips and knees.

With my passion for the outdoors, I have also worked widely as a Mountain Leader in the past. Leading groups of adults and young people in the UK and abroad.

“I love the precision of Pilates and the ability (through awareness of your own body) to achieve length, strength and elegance in your own body, through practising mindful movement”
